Chung Family Contest # 10

What did Erik eat?

In this picture, Erik enjoyed lunch with his dad and tried something new.  Guess what it is and we will send you some treats from one of our stops in California on our upcoming trip (we're going to Ghiradelli, Jelly Belly, and Dewars for sure).

Here's your hint:  We wrote about it on this blog.

Leave your answer in the comment section.

We Have A Winner!

Erik is walking, effective today.  He took four steps on two separate occasions.  We'll try and get some video and pictures tomorrow.  For now, the winner is...............*Harabagee* who picked 5/31/2010.  We'll be picking out some yummy, *Norwegian* treats for Harabagee in honor of his best guess of when Erik would start walking.  It wouldn't seem right to send Korean treats.

Congratulations on your new milestone, Erik!

Chung Family Contest # 9

When Will He Walk?

The famous Chung Family contest is back.  Erik stands on his own and is getting ready for the next chapter in his independent life - walking!

Guess the day Erik will start walking and we'll send you some yummy Korean treats.  Put your guess in the comment box.  Remember to type your name, instead of Anonymous.

Here is some helpful information as you ponder the question.

1.  Erik's birthday is June 16.
2.  Morgan walked at age 12 months 0 days (on her birthday).
3.  Annika walked at 13 months.
4.  Ingrid walked at age 12 months and 2 weeks.

We Have a Winner

Only a few brave persons attempted our last Chung Family Contest - Name that Chung. And finally, with pictures restored, we're able to determine a winner. My coworker, Susanna Delgado, won the contest with 80% correct. If you missed the contest, click here.

Woody admitted difficulty with the task. After one month without looking at the pictures, I had to take a few extra looks to remember which picture is which. The moral of the story - using a photo safe pen or pencil, be sure to clearly label your photos.

Chung Family Contest #8

It's no secret that occasionally we mix up the names of our children. It happens. But as we get older, and clothes get passed down, we found out that without the "date stamp" on the digital photos, we may disagree on the subject of the photo. So we thought we'd let you decide. Below is a compilation of photos of our kids. To the person who can correctly guess the right Chung in each of the photos (or get the most right), we will send a box of Korean treats to you. Just send us an email at fivechungs [@] yahoo [.] com. Start numbering across the first row 1-4, second row 5-8, and so on. Good luck. If you're curious, Woody and I can't get 100% without looking at the image details.
Extra Hint: There are five pictures of each Chung.
Update on the Extra Hint: Actually, there are six pictures of Annika and four pictures of Erik, five pictures of Morgan and five pictures of Ingrid.

We Have Some Winners!

From our contest last week, [click here if you missed it] we are ready to announce the winner(s)!

1st Prize goes to my aunt Deb. For the answer that was closest in accuracy, Deb's answer included the word "slumber". There was some sort of slumber happening, but not by way of a sleepover.

2nd Prize is a tie between Susan/Randy and Alison/Chad. Both answers were funny enough to earn some Korean treats. Personally, I think a Curious George rock concert would be painful to sit through, but a space suit was equally funny.

We'll be stopping by the Korean market to pick out some wonderful and interesting snacks for the winners. Congratulations!

So do you want to know the real answer?

Woody was headed to a sleep study at Mercy Gilbert. It's a night study, so he was saying goodbye to Ingrid. At the time of the photo, he had no idea of the added stow-a-way in his backpack. Woody said he discovered it in time before he went in the building!

Chung Family Contest # 7

To the person or family that can guess correctly where Woody is headed, we'll send you a box of Korean treats.

To the person or family that comes up with the most creative or outrageous answer, we'll send some outrageous Korean treats.

Today's Reading and Contest.

The title is correct. Today, our daily reading occurred during daylight hours. A call was put out to parents to come to Jacobson Elementary and be the weekly "mystery reader" in Morgan's class. In two years, I have never answered the call. That is until now. I decided so close to the end of the school year, it's now or never. I went with Morgan's Harmony (grandmother), Suzie, and together we knocked on the door at the appointed time with our reading material in hand.

We chose to read to the class a Korean folk story about the Fountain of Youth. Interestingly enough, the story is written in both English and Korean. I read the story in English and for fun, Suzie read a few pages of the story in Korean. The class enjoyed it and asked a few questions about fish eating and whether there was a correlation between Korean language and Egyptian characters. Where did that come from I wondered - a question from a precocious child. My answer was equally ubiquitous.
Student privacy laws prevented me from documenting the event with my digital camera, so I was relegated to creating a Fisher Price style re-enactment for the blog. Truthfully, I couldn't find a way of taking a picture of us or the class together since we were facing each other.

Here's Suzie and me reading a folk story to Morgan's class (Morgan has my consent to be photographed for this blog). Morgan's teacher sat behind the class and prompted the kids to ask questions. She also reads this blog.
Now the contest: name all of the Sesame Street "students" in this picture. The first one with all of them correct wins. P.S., In addition the parent, grandparent and teacher, three of the Fisher Price people aren't Sesame Street characters at all. We will send a box of Korean treats to the first person who can correctly identify all characters and name the three that aren't from the show. Good Luck.

Chung Family Contest # 5 - We Have a Winner!

Well sort of. There was only one entrant. However, we fully took my Aunt Diane's suggestion for funny magnets that reflect our personalities. Diane suggested that I am a "Busy Bee" and Woody is a "Cool Cat". True, I attempted to purchase her suggestion for me, but they were out.

We found after much reflection that two magnets each matched some familiar characteristics of our personalities.

Woody likes to stay up late which makes the Night Owl magnet a good match. I have been told I used to be a Class Clown (some of my college roommates will back up this statement with their biased testimony).

On the other hand, I have some Hippie Chick qualities (I love etsy.com) and Woody can be as easy going and good natured as a Happy Camper. So we ordered both sets.

We Have A Winner!

This one was an unpublished contest - who was the 1000th visitor to our blog? Has anyone noticed the counter to the left? We now have received over 1000 hits to our blog. Truth be told, many of our visitors are repeats, especially both sets of grandparents. Visitor #1000 was my mom.

Stay tuned, we will be adding a new Chung Family Happenings contest in the near future - this one with prizes!

Chung Family Contest # 4 - Who Was the First?

No prize set for this one, but the contest is still on. Name the Chung family member who was the first to lose the Wii remote. For those of you unfamiliar with the Wii gaming, the remote is integral to the unit's function. So if you misplace it, you're in trouble. We didn't misplace ours.

The contest is to name the Chung who let the remote fly our of their hand - a common problem with the Wii, despite the wrist strap. Serious damage can occur for those with actual TV screens or other important electronic equipment. Look at this picture below. I got this off the Internet. This is not from our house. Thankfully, we have a home theater screen, so there would be no damage to the screen, if it were to get pelleted by the remote. Nothing was damaged in our incident today.

So who was the first to let go of the remote at our house? Any guesses?

Bonus question: Name the game that was playing.

We have a Winner!

Just a quick not to say Ingrid is walking!!!! Sue and Randy picked the right day. More later with pictures.

Chung Contest Number 3 - When will she walk?

OK. We all guessed wrong. We still have a beautiful box of Korean treats to send to the person who guesses the day Ingrid will start walking. For now, she pushes a wheeled cart and walks alongside furniture but hasn't taken the first independent step.

So, the contest starts again! Pick the day you'll think Ingrid will start walking or just provide a comment for the heck of it...What have you got to lose?

A quick hint about posting comments. First type your comment; then click "other" for your identity and fill in your name. Finally, click publish your comment.

She Stands! Plus, Another Chung Contest

OK, I admit it's not as exciting as the big "W-ing", but Ingrid decided to stand up on her own today. It's actually a second rite of passage for this week. Ingrid cut tooth number four last Wednesday. The standing has not come without some craziness. Ingrid is insisting on following her sisters everywhere. She's especially mesmorized by older sister Morgan. Whatever Morgan has, Ingrid wants. Wherever Morgan goes, Ingrid wants to be. Ingrid's favorite spot in the house: Morgan's room. Perhaps her will to "be" her sister will lead to walking sooner rather than later which leads me to my next topic:

Chung Family Contest #2: When will Ingrid walk?

Please add a comment with your guess as to when Ingrid will walk. Here are a couple of hints to help you select a date. Ingrid's birthday is 8/16. Morgan decided to begin walking ON her birthday. Annika began walking two weeks after her first birthday.

To the person who picks the right date or comes closest, we'll send a new Korean treat picked out in Los Angeles when we go for Ingrid's Dohl ceremony.

So come on, Friends and Family alike, pick a date.

We Have a Winner!!!

If you look at the post from a few days ago, we let our daughters put Perilla leaves over their noses. So congratulations, Diane, you are right. The Perilla leaf (Shiso) is very similar to a sesame leaf. Watch for some Korean snacks coming your way.

Chung Family Contest - Name that Leaf

To our family and friends:

Name the edible leaf that is plastered over our daughters noses and we will send you a Korean treat. Have fun.

P.S. It starts with a "p".

Update 6/21/07: It looks like a few more hints are needed. This edible leaf is used in Asian dishes and is Japanese. You can find it in the produce section of an Asian store. Koreans eat marinated meat, rice, and pepper paste wrapped in this leaf. The dish is called Bulgogi. Another name for this leaf starts with an "s".
Great treats ready to mail to the winner. Any takers??
